BDS Malaysia to file report against ship sending explosives to Israel
Malaysian BDS movement to lodge police report against Liberian-flagged ship
Vessel allegedly carrying military equipment bound for Israel
The Malaysian chapter of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement is set to file a police report against a Liberian-flagged ship suspected of carrying military equipment bound for Israel.
The ship, identified as the MV Thor Liberty, is said to have departed from Port Klang on Sunday (Feb 26) and is currently en route to the Israeli port of Ashdod.
BDS Malaysia coordinator Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid said the movement received information that the ship was carrying explosives and other military equipment.
"We believe that this is a clear violation of international law and Malaysian neutrality," he said in a statement on Monday (Feb 27).
Azmi said BDS Malaysia would be lodging a police report against the ship's captain and crew, as well as the shipping company.
He also called on the Malaysian government to investigate the matter and take appropriate action.
"We urge the government to seize the ship and prevent it from delivering its deadly cargo to Israel," he said.
The MV Thor Liberty is owned by Israeli shipping company Zodiac Maritime.
The company has not yet commented on the allegations.
The BDS movement is a global campaign that aims to pressure Israel to end its occupation of the Palestinian territories and respect the rights of Palestinians.
The movement has been criticized by some as being anti-Semitic, but its supporters say it is a non-violent form of protest.
In Malaysia, the BDS movement has been active in calling for a boycott of Israeli products and companies.
The movement has also organized protests against Israeli policies and actions.
