Lithium Mining Company Faces Complaints at Big Sandy
Hawsktone Mining's Expansion Raises Concerns
Allegations of Environmental Impact and Lack of Community Involvement
Hawsktone Mining, an Australian-based mining company, is facing complaints from residents near its Big Sandy lithium project in Arizona. The company has been accused of environmental damage and lack of community involvement.
Hawsktone has been drilling on three sides of Hualapai land in Arizona's Big Sandy area for several years. The company plans to develop a lithium mine, which could significantly contribute to the domestic demand for the mineral by 2030.
However, residents allege that the company's mining activities have caused damage to the environment, including groundwater contamination and air pollution. They also expressed concerns that Hawsktone has not adequately involved the community in its decision-making process.
The US Bureau of Land Management has granted Hawsktone approval for exploration but has not yet approved a full mining operation. The agency is currently reviewing the company's environmental impact assessment.
