EF Education-EasyPost Rider Earns Prestigious Distinction
Ecuadorian Superstar Makes History
WEB Richard Carapaz (EF Education-EasyPost) has become the 110th rider in cycling history to complete the set of stage victories in the sport's three Grand Tours by winning stage 17 of the Tour de France. The Ecuadorian superstar added the Tour de France to his previous triumphs at the Giro d'Italia and Vuelta a España, cementing his status as one of the elite riders of his generation.
Carapaz, who won stages at the 2022 Giro and 2023 Vuelta, produced a stunning effort from the breakaway to secure the prestigious win on the mountainous stage from Saint-Gaudens to the SuperDevoluy finish. The 28-year-old attacked from a breakaway group shortly before the summit of the penultimate climb and held off his pursuers on the final descent to earn a memorable victory.
Carapaz's triumph is the first Grand Tour stage win for EF Education-EasyPost since the team's inception in 2009. The victory marks a significant milestone for the American squad, which has steadily risen through the ranks of professional cycling in recent years.
